August 2009 Event Summary
Kudos to A&I Color Laboratories in Hollywood for hosting LADIG’s August 2009 event… Thank you for having us. Check out their new print-on-demand photo books, the samples they had looked really good.
Greg Dyro’s introduction of “Wacky Hacks” was well received and may become a regular opening event feature. Though advertised as a whimsical tour, Greg closed his report with an observation that some of the hardware and software presented, though off-the-wall, are potentially seedlings for future products and industries… “They are our future”.
Greg left us with the following links that might be of interest:

An in-depth look at Adobe Lightroom comprised the rest of the evening. Lee Varis and Daniel Sofer covered the photo management software from the very basics to advanced levels of application.
Here’s a link Lee provided for an hierarchal keywords list called, Controlled Vocabulary:

Many of the Export plugins demonstrated by Daniel are by Jeffrey Friedl. You can get more information about and download them at http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies
Daniel also discussed DF Studio Link for Lightroom, available from Digital Fusion.
Clarence Martin has joined our board. Clarence now handles the food and refreshments for our events and socials. Welcome Clarence! (The former guy served pizza at four events in a row and was summarily dismissed on the grounds that he “lost his creative edge”).
Our video clip for August accentuates an important part of LADIG’s events, the intermission. Our members get a chance to bounce their opinions off one another regarding the ideas and technologies showcased at our meetings. We are known for creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Seasoned professionals and burgeoning hopefuls alike are able to make informed decisions toward adopting technology and procedures to benefit their business and personal photographic endeavors. That seems to be the soul of LADIG.
